Happy Lunar New Year!

Wishing you all a Happy Lunar New Year from our little family to yours! My daughter Avery is half Chinese and half Filipino. I am so excited that we get to share both cultures with her as she grows up. What are your Chinese New Year plans and traditions?

For us, we usually eat some Chinese food or dim sum with family and then ring in the New Year with some red envelopes also known as "Lai See", which means good luck. Typically these red envelopes are filled with money or candy. The red colour of the envelope symbolizes good luck for the New Year.

Some other New Years traditions that I find interesting are the ones that are based on superstition. My husband says that we have to make sure we do not shower or sweep the floor on the day of Chinese New Year because otherwise you are washing/sweeping away your good fortune away. Whether or not this is true, we followed it because those were his wishes! We hope you all have a wonderful time celebrating and a prosperous New Year!
